Breaking news ruled end of August for Herald and News

Breaking news ruled the day at the end of August at the Herald and News, when a sheriff’s deputy was shot twice during a traffic stop, once in the face and once in the stomach. He’s recovering and the suspects have been arrested.

There’s an outpouring of support for him with various fundraisers and the H&N is following the case closely.

Meanwhile social media took off during the event and subsequent foot and car chase:

Our Facebook likes jumped by 500 in just a few days (we are now over 10,500); our total reach hit 56,303 people; total likes were up 1,670; comments topped 1,547 and shares were 1,946. We covered the event live on Twitter, Facebook and our Herald and News site throughout the day and following days. It was a real hockey stick jump for us.
